Powerboat Training NZ respects your privacy. This policy explains what

information may be collected when you use the Skipper IQ / Powerboat Captain

Quiz app on iPhone, iPad or Android, including quiz features, boating tools,

leaderboards, community features, and Message in a Bottle.

Information We Collect

The app may collect or store the following information, depending on which

features you use and which platform you are on:

App activity, such as quiz progress, scores, badges, feature usage, and app

interactions.

Display names you choose to use for leaderboards or community features.

Location information when you use location-based boating tools, anchor

monitoring, waypoints, community maps, or Message in a Bottle.

Message in a Bottle content, including written bottle messages, replies,

optional voice notes, approximate launch, found and reply locations, report

information, moderation status, and anonymous device identifiers used for

blocking, moderation, rate limiting, and abuse prevention.

Reports submitted by users, including the reported content preview, report

reason, optional details, reporter identifier, and author identifier.

Purchase and subscription status, provided by Apple on iOS and by Google Play

on Android.

Diagnostic or analytics information used to improve the app and identify

problems.

We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, email

address, phone number or date of birth unless you choose to contact us

directly.

How We Use Information

We use this information to:

Provide app features such as quizzes, training progress, badges, leaderboards,

boating tools, maps, notifications, and Message in a Bottle.

Store and display user-generated bottle messages and replies.

Allow users to report content, block senders, and help us moderate community

content.

Prevent abuse, spam, harassment, and unsafe use of community features.

Send relevant app notifications where you have allowed notifications.

Improve app performance, reliability, content, and user experience.

Verify purchases and provide access to paid features.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your information

for third-party advertising.

User-Generated Content and Moderation

Message in a Bottle allows users to submit messages and optional voice notes

that may be visible to other app users. Users can report bottles or replies and

block senders. Reported content may be reviewed, hidden, removed, or used to

restrict abusive users.

Do not include private, sensitive, identifying, offensive, illegal, unsafe, or

inappropriate information in bottle messages, replies, or voice notes.

Location Information

Some features use your location to provide boating-related functionality.

Message in a Bottle may store approximate locations connected with bottle

launches, finds, replies, and drift behaviour.

The Anchor Guardian drift alarm can continue to use your location while the app

is in the background or the screen is off. This is necessary so it can keep

watching your position while you are asleep or below decks and sound an alarm

if the boat drifts outside the radius you set. This background location is used

only to run the alarm on your device. It is not uploaded, shared, or used for

any other purpose, and the alarm only runs while you have deliberately started

an anchor watch.

Location information is used to make these features work. It is not intended as

a safety, navigation, or tracking service.

Training and Safety Notice

All tools and content in this app are provided for training and educational

purposes only. They are not a substitute for proper seamanship, official

navigation equipment, charts, or professional judgement. Never rely on this app

alone for the safety of your vessel, your crew, or yourself.

Storage and Third Parties

Some app data is stored on your device.

Where community, leaderboard and moderation features are available on your

platform, that content is also stored on our cloud service provider's servers

so it can be shared between users and reviewed for safety.

Purchases are handled by Apple on iOS and by Google Play on Android. We never

see or store your payment card details.

Some app content or configuration may be loaded from Powerboat Training NZ or

related web services.

Maps in the Android app are provided by Google Maps and are subject to Google's

own privacy policy.

Children

This app is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children

under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under

13. If you believe a child has submitted content through the app, please contact

us and we will remove it.

Data Retention and Deletion

Some information is stored locally on your device and can be removed by deleting

the app.

Community content, leaderboard entries, reports, and moderation records stored

on our cloud service may remain after app deletion where needed to operate the

service, maintain community safety, investigate abuse, or comply with legal

obligations.

You may contact us at any time to request deletion of content you have

submitted, or to ask a question about your data. We will respond within a

reasonable time.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to,

correction of, or deletion of information we hold about you, and to complain to

a privacy regulator. In New Zealand this is the Office of the Privacy

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time as app features change. The

latest version will be made available through the app or on our website.
